TRANSIENT LANDFORMS

DREAMSONG GALLERY, MINNEAPOLIS, 2023

The speculative, Modernist ruins, “Transient Landforms,” is made of materials drawn from the earth, capable of eroding back to the earth. In designing this toppled column, the artist considered the sculpture “Endless Column” by the pioneer of Modernism, Constantin Brancusi. Following recipes for rammed earth construction, “Transient Landforms” is fabricated out of clay adobe, hand-pressed into molds, and dried by the sun. The height and size of the sculpture are variable and site-specific. Adobe material can be ground up and reconstituted with water to be rammed again into a new form, and clay soils exist across the world, a ready resource for future columns.
